About This Blog
I’m Mel. A forty something park ranger who lives on Norfolk Island…and who, well….just really likes walking. I’m hoping this blog will capture my amazing experiences as a solo (mostly!), female hiker and encourage others that are planning similar trips.
You’re Awesome!
Awe. Thanks!
Thanks for inviting me to your blog Mel. I’m a very proud Aunty before you even start!
Looking forward to following your adventures!
Hi Mel, it’s Cam Johnstone here.. just spent time with Pip and Errol at Ruth and Gwen’s 91st birthday celebrations and they told me of your up coming adventures on the PCT.. awesome! I’m looking forward to reading about your travels!! Happy trails.
Just checking whether you get this. Love the photos! What an awesome, if cruisy, walk! Did that green river have little floating algae plants on it? Reminds me of the stuff that used to get on the Kingston mill dam….hope youve been able to dry everything out today! 🤞🤞😘
Got it! Yes, lots of algae. It was amazing! Everything dry. Feeling good! 😊😊
Thanks for sharing Mel! You are a fabulous story teller and i cannot wait for more adventure stories, chats with birds, minitors etc to
Aww. Thanks so much Bri! I’m really enjoying being a little bit creative as I walk. 😊😊
Great blog Mel. Thanks for mentioning the Two Sisters in Cooloola. It really was a special walk. Your writing and photos are wonderful. Happy Trails!
Thanks so much Pauline! So nice to have met you both! Heard from the taxi driver that you got out to Fraser…fantastic! Loved that walk. If you’re ever in Norfolk be sure to look me up.
Hi Mel, it was great to meet you on the Cooloola walk. I admire your sense of adventure with the solo walking, I haven’t done much of that. (Not yet – just have to break the news to the rest of my group?!) Happy to report we got back to Noosa in time for our dinner.
Loved your write-up of the walk, great pics too. And the GNW as well- what a coincidence, I think our paths will probably cross again.
All the best – Paul.
Hi Mel. Loved your Fraser Island blog. I was wondering if it was possible to contact you to ask you some questions if you have time (and inclination!). Let me know.

Hi Mel,
Congratulations on the achievement of finishing the trail!
When you have had time to celebrate and re-adjust to normal life, I’m wondering if you would have the time to put something together for our readers of the Trailwalker magazine. You write beautifully. If you are interested, then please drop me a line at some stage.
Congratulations, again. You are an inspiration!
