On the Timber Trail to Piropiro Camp
It was a cold, cold night. But I’ve had worse. There is always that to fall back on.
The trail today was pleasant. Relatively easy walking, looping in and out of old and new and medium growth forests. Much of the walk looked like what I would describe as “fire trail” in Australia. Not awesome, but not bad either.

The absolute highlight of the day were the amazing suspension bridges. Rounding the corner to see these spiderweb style structures spanning across a formidable expanse of bushland, high above the canopy, was a sight to behold.

Even without a fear of heights, the heartbeat raced, stepping out towards the middle. A slight feeling of quesiness, or seasickness, as the bridge rocked from side to side with each step. I don’t know how they make them, but kudos to whoever did.

Piropiro Campsite is a large, flat reserve. All campers are around the edge, like some strange version of duck, duck, goose. These people look like they would like a little duck, duck, goose with their camo and guns and little ATV’s. It is a camp for hunters, so it seems.
I’m feeling quite stiff and sore this afternoon. The sun has been golden though, chasing away the cool of this morning, and inviting birds to sing their songs. I have already heard a Kakariki…now, just to spot one!
